Just how many types of coffee makers are out there, and what do they do?

Drip Coffee Makers

This is the coffee maker that most people are familiar with. Traditional and simple, this machine can make as much or as little coffee as you want. To use it, simply add cold water to the designated reservoir and place your favorite coffee grounds in a filter at the top of the appliance.

As the water gets heated and passes through the grounds, your coffee will filter into the large carafe below. Traditionally, a hot plate underneath the carafe keeps the coffee hot, but modern day versions of the drip coffee maker often have more advanced features.

Single Serve Coffee Makers

Also called “capsule” or “pod” coffee machines, these convenient coffee makers have rapidly grown in popularity over the years. Single serve coffee makers allow you to make the perfect amount of coffee every single time, which improves efficiency and prevents wasted product.

They work by using small pods (usually plastic, many now recyclable) that you put into the top of the machine. Water is then pulled from a large reservoir, heated, and passed through the grounds, resulting in one perfect cup of coffee.

The French Press

One of the best ways to get rich and full flavored coffee, the french press is loved among true coffee aficionados. To use this manual coffee maker, allow loose grounds to steep in just-boiled water in the carafe, and then slowly push down on the filter to separate the grounds from your freshly made coffee. The longer you let the coffee grounds steep, the stronger your coffee will be. If you like flavor, you’re sure to appreciate the magic of the french press.

Though this article only covers 3 of the most popular coffee makers, there are so many more out there to satisfy all of our coffee needs. From the cold brew coffee maker to espresso machines, there’s a whole world of coffee related products just waiting to be discovered!
